Landing Platform vs Algolia: search included in the plan
Algolia is a search engine you build on and pay for by the request. Landing gives you finished site search and recommendations for your store, in the plan, with email, a CRM, a helpdesk and checkout on the same record.

Landing suits you if
- You'd rather not watch a meter every time traffic spikes
- You want search your merchandisers run, not a project for developers
- You want search to sit next to your email, orders and support
Where the meter runs.
More shoppers searching should be good news for the bill.
A bill per search
On Grow plans, every 1,000 searches past the allowance adds to the invoice, so a busy sale week costs more.
A build, not a product
Algolia is an engine. Turning it into a search experience on your store is work someone has to do and maintain.
AI costs extra
AI ranking and synonyms sit on Grow Plus, which bills more per extra search.
Landing Platform vs Algolia, line by line.
Landing gives a store the search features a merchandiser uses, ready on your theme, and prices them into the plan.
| Feature | Landing Platform | Algolia |
|---|---|---|
| Site search | Typo tolerance, filters, "did you mean", and phrases like "under £50" understoodScale | Keyword search; AI ranking from Grow Plus |
| On your store | Attaches to your own search box, styled to your theme, with results in our overlay or on your own search page with your own product cardsScale | Built by your developers from its libraries |
| Products tagged from their photos | AI reads colour, material and shape from each product image, so "green linen" finds the dress even when the title doesn't say itScale | Not described on its plans |
| Merchandising rules | Synonyms, redirects, boost and bury, and pinned products, on a schedule or for one audience: new visitors, returning ones, shoppers with a basket or a named segmentScale | Rules and synonyms |
| Recommendations | Six strategies, from trending and bought together to "looks like this", in named slots, with clicks and revenue reported per slotScale | Recommendations, metered as requests |
| Search analytics | Top searches, searches with no results, click-through and the revenue search led to, with the attribution method shown beside the numberScale | Analytics kept 30 or 90 days by plan |
| Email marketing | Campaigns and flows, including abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, and back in stock and price drop for ShopifyCore | Not its product |
| CRM, helpdesk and checkout | Built in, on the same customer record as every search and orderCore | Not its product |
| How you pay | Per Builder and Member, plus contacts after 2,500. Shoppers are free, and your price doesn't rise with your sales | Per 1,000 searches and records past the allowance |
Plan tags show where a feature starts on Landing: Core, Growth or Scale. Algolia details reflect its publicly available information as of September 2026; check current details on its own site.
What it costs, side by side.
Algolia bills by search requests and records. Landing bills by the people who run the store, and site search is part of Scale, sold yearly. Your shoppers can search as much as they like.

Algolia, as it lists it
Algolia's plans as listed on its site, September 2026.
And still to buy separately: email and SMS marketing, a CRM, a helpdesk and checkout.
a month on Landing, billed yearly, ex VAT
Includes site search, recommendations, merchandising rules, search analytics, email and SMS flows, CRM, helpdesk and checkout.
Work out your own priceExample team: three people who run the store and its marketing every day, four who handle orders and support. Landing prices are in pounds; Algolia lists its prices in dollars, so we show both as published rather than converting. Credits for AI, SMS and lookups come from a shared pool each Builder adds to. Scale is sold yearly only.
Switching is our job, not yours.
We move you over one tool a month, against success criteria we agree with you up front. You don't pay until we prove each one is ready.
We map your stack
Show us your Algolia setup and the tools around it. We agree what moves where, and what "ready" means for search, before you commit to anything.
We move search across
We index your catalogue from Shopify, Magento or a Google product feed, carry your synonyms and rules across, and put Landing on your own search box. We compare your top searches before you switch off.
You sign it off
Billing starts only when we have shown it works against the criteria you set. Then we move the next tool, one a month.
But we already use Algolia.
Fair. Here are the questions teams ask us most when they're weighing it up.
Is Landing's search metered?
No. Search is part of the Scale plan. You pay for Builders and Members and your contact list, not for each search your shoppers run.
Do we need developers to put it on our store?
No. On Shopify it's an app embed; elsewhere it rides the Landing tag. It attaches to your own search box and takes your theme's look, and we set it up with you.
What if our catalogue isn't on Shopify?
Landing reads catalogues from Shopify, Magento or a Google product feed, and runs search on the store you already have.
Can merchandisers change results without a developer?
Yes. Synonyms, redirects, boost and bury, and pinned products are set in the console, on a schedule or for one audience, with a before and after preview.
